Invisalign® is an innovative, state-of-the-art orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners to gently and consistently move your teeth into a new position to give you your perfect smile.
Like traditional orthodontic treatment, Invisalign® can straighten your teeth and fix:
It is important to note that Invisalign® does have limitations, and more complex cases may need to be treated with traditional metal braces. Dr. Mark Shalaby and Dr. Mike Shalaby will be able to determine whether Invisalign® is an appropriate treatment for you during your consultation.
The clear aligners that Invisalign® uses gently and consistently forces your teeth to move into a new position. Every couple of weeks, you will use a new set of trays that are specifically designed to continue the movement progression set up in the previous trays. Although you are not using the same method, Invisalign® relies on the same basic principle as metal braces: you push the teeth into a new position by stretching the tissue around the tooth to create new bone growth to support your tooth root in its new position within your jaw.
Because the aligners are not quite as strong as metal braces, Invisalign® tends to take a little longer than braces. However, the underlying biological mechanisms behind the treatment are the same. Since your Invisalign® aligners can be removed, you do need to be diligent about wearing them to encourage the remodeling of the bone. Wearing your aligners less than 22 hours a day can delay your treatment time.
Investing in straightening your teeth isn’t just about getting a more beautiful smile; it’s about getting a healthier smile. Invisalign® gives you the same oral health benefits as traditional braces with the added advantage of their discreet and removable aligners.
Treatment with Invisalign® typically lasts between 12-18 months. However, your dentist will be able to give you a more personalized, realistic timeline based on your specific case. Every few weeks, you will get a new set of aligners to continue moving your teeth in the right direction. You will periodically visit our office to ensure that the aligners are working properly and to make any necessary adjustments to your Invisalign® treatment plan.
Compliance is one of the biggest factors in determining your treatment time. Any non-compliance with the requirements of wearing your aligners can delay your treatment completion time.
Although Invisalign® is usually a great option for almost anyone, it is not for everyone. People with more serious or complex orthodontic concerns should consider traditional braces. Additionally, you need to wear your aligners between 20-22 hours a day in order for your treatment plan to be effective. This diligence and time commitment might be a deterrent for some patients, particularly teenagers. However, almost anyone willing to commit to the diligence that Invisalign takes to be successful is a great candidate for Invisalign®.
Although Invisalign® is a pricier treatment, dental insurance typically covers or contributes to Invisalign® the same way it would contribute to traditional braces. The actual cost of your treatment will depend on the complexity of your case, and Dr. Mark Shalaby or Dr. Mike Shalaby will be able to give you a more accurate cost estimate following your initial evaluation.
